Dementia Research Inclusion and Engagement

Shaping Fairer, More Inclusive Dementia Research

Dementia is a global health concern, with nearly 1 million people living with the condition in the UK.

People from ethnically diverse backgrounds face pronounced inequalities in dementia risk, diagnosis and care, and evidence suggests that the steepest projected increase will be in South Asian communities.

Yet they are still under‑represented in epidemiological studies, clinical trials, biomarker research and social care evaluations, meaning that much of the evidence used to design services does not fully reflect their lives or needs.

DOSTIA works to change this by supporting South Asian and other ethnically diverse communities to get involved in funded dementia research projects in ways that feel safe, trusted and meaningful.

This includes raising awareness of research, explaining what participation involves, and helping people register for opportunities such as Join Dementia Research, and Be Part of Research, as well as co‑producing studies with researchers so that questions, methods and outcomes genuinely reflect community priorities.

Our funded projects include:
Bridging gaps in dementia care: co-producing culturally appropriate solutions with South Asian communities
