Why We Share These Resources

South Asian communities in the UK face real barriers to dementia diagnosis and support:

No direct word for dementia in many South Asian languages
Meaning symptoms are often seen as "just ageing"

Late diagnosis
Often at crisis point, when more support is needed

Stigma and isolation
Families may feel ashamed to seek help

Language barriers
Difficulty accessing mainstream services

Information barriers
Lack of culturally appropriate information about what dementia is and how it can be managed

Keep this information safe

Please feel free to share this page with family, friends and community members who might benefit. You can also:

Print this page and share it with your GP, community centre or place of worship

Share the link to specific resources with people in your community

Contact DOSTIA if you'd like printed copies of any resources in your language

We believe everyone affected by dementia deserves dignity, respect, and care that reflects their values and culture.
